This year marks 241 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed, and Independence Day will be celebrated in just a few short weeks. Many towns will hold parades and concerts, people will have pool parties and barbecues and regardless of where you celebrate, there will be lots and lots of fireworks to cap of the evening.

Firework Injuries

According to statisticbrain.com there are 20,000 fires caused each year because of fireworks, and illegal fireworks alone cause 45% of injuries to kids under the age of 14. These injuries include loss of fingers, loss of eyesight, head injuries and even death.

To ensure everyone has a safe holiday here are some recommended safety tips to follow. Fireworks should always be used under the supervision of a responsible adult.  To protect your eyes, it’s always best to wear safety glasses. Always use fireworks outside, aim away from building and cars, find a clear, open area. Make sure there is hose along with a bucket of water close by and never relight a dud firework, leave it for 20 – 30 minutes and then soak it. Finally, once done, wet all used fireworks and place them in a metal trash can away from combustible material and buildings.
